As
Café K is a voluntary organisation we rely on funding to enable
us to provide not only our basic service but also to continue to develop
other new and innovative pieces of work through out the year.
All
the work which is carried out could never have been achieved without
the help and support from our funders. Over 2000 young people benefit
from the services of Café K and below are quotes from both young
people, parents, funders and other organisations on the work they have
been involved in with Café K.
Where
it is possible to provide these reports the links have been provided.
Other quotes have been taken from feedback forms and letters received.
Above
are the seven main funders who provide financial support throughout
the year to enable Cafe K to provide its services.
Craigmillar
Social Inclusion Partnership provides our core funding for full time
staff and core runnng costs which enables us to provide a full service
to young people and children.
The
Community Safety Partnership are the main funders of the Oot n Aboot
project which includes providing staff wages and resources.
The
British Youth Council supports Cafe K's intercultural exchanges alongside
the International Unit at the children and Families Department
Edinburgh
Leisure provides Open all Hours monies for both sessional staff and
resources for FCUK on friday's. And this year they supported our summer
programme of activities in conjunction with Edinburgh City Council,
Children and Families Department.
Lastly,
whilst these funders above provide finance and experise, Cafe k benefits
from in kind knowledge and experience from a host of projects and organisations
within and outwith the Greateer Craigmillar area.
Feedback
from other organisations
‘The card was very well done and most gratefully
received. Interesting themes! Please keep up the good work that your
project is doing within the community.’ (Mike Bridgeman, SNP Councillor
Thank you to all the young
people and staff at Oot n Aboot for the brilliant christmas card ...
I have to say it attracted the most attention of all the cards i had
on display at work and at home, with many family, friends and colleagues
intrigued by the startling photo on the cover (the baby with the bottle
of voddy!) ... All the admirers were very impressed by the caring, conscientious
messages inside and many people particularly commented on the strength
of the "dinnae bump yer pals" rule, observing how that applies
to all of us whatever age we are, and wherever we are out enjoying the
festivities. Well done to all involved on producing a christmas card
that avoids the xmas cliches and gets across its important theme of
looking out for each other when alcohol is involved! (Tommy George –
Edinburgh Leisure)
‘Workers from Oot N
Aboot have given me lots of help. They helped me get my house and sort
out what benefits I can get so that I could move into my own house with
my baby and boyfriend’. (18 yr old female)
“I like being involved in the decision making.
It makes a big difference when you are not told like in school(16 year
old female)
“There is a strong curriculum
of Personal Social and Emotional Education happening in Primary school
but the support of agencies such as Café K brings an added dimension
to the development of emotional literacy”. (Head Teacher: Castleview
Primary School)
“I feel that this project
was very worthwhile for the class as it went over serious issues but
in a child friendly way. Dave and Susie were very relaxed with the group
and the children looked forward to their visits. They tried to make
their activities fun while portraying the serious issue of the lesson.
A few of the children knew Susie and Davie from Café K which
I think made them feel more relaxed with them, they knew they could
have fun with them and I feel that it made it easier for them to talk
about issues.” (St Francis School Teacher)
